Mid-autumn Festival

The Mid-autumn Festival is on the 15th of the 8th lunar month, it's also known as the Chinese Moon Festival. I find it's just like Christmas or Thanksgiving or Hari Raya Idul Fitri where people sending food and the family have gathering, enjoy happy moments together, then the Moon Festival is also a special events for Chinese.

The moon cake is the food for the Moon Festival. Even this is my first time in Singapore and enjoy the celebration, I am so happy coz' I have numerous boxes of moon cakes that people sent to me.

I am happy not because of the moon cake but from the care of the people and the celebration, well.. regardless if there's a another "expected" business behind the mooncakes.

Hmmm...to me, let's forget of which race are you and what religion you are, let's share happiness by start from food, thought and care. Don't you feel beautiful if people sending food, smile, care and share the happiness? Imagine if it happened in your neighborhood, family, office, school. Hmmm... what a wonderful world.

Love is cinta

I bought the Love is Cinta movie VCD in Batam and watched it over last nite in my apartment.

Well, disappointed, another sad thing happened again for Indonesia movie. All the imposible story, unreal plot, love-dream selling, kleenex advertisement (try to make the audience cry ) and worst is the unnecessarily homophobic reaction and messages to "educate" to our teens ( "tapi dia banci", "papi miss you so much", seorang gay bunuh diri - halah, hari gini masih penting ya sexual orientation, males amat sih!!)

The best is only the performance of Raffi Ahmad (my first time to see his performance anyway), Tio P doesn't do much thing to help the movie, just the way he act to beat his son.

Mba Mia Dinata or Mas Joko Anwar, please create more creative movie like you've done, show the world that we are able to make one.

In the nutshell, it's a nice try for the flying scene at the end - next time try to be gatotkaca better.

my blood type is retail

I don't know why I am so in love with retail industry, regardless as a shopper or as the retailer. The way of presenting something to the customer, wrap it in excellence service in order to get high profit is in my blood.

May be becoz' my mom and dad were a retailer also, or may be too much time was spent in my mother shoe's store when I was kid. When I was 8y.o, I even asked the customer "What is your shoe size, mam? Do you prefer the brown or the black one?" Hahahaha.....

I miss my sydney's ramen

Can anyone send my fav ramen to singapore? Easy ...go to 3rd floor Gallery Victoria, wrap it and send by DHL hehehe...

Batam trip

I went to Batam Island last Friday with Flo and Brian for our business trip. Was a fun business trip, end with fab dinner at A1 with batam and bali's team. Too bad, I got a bit allergy coz' of the prawn ( don't know why ), but it's made my lips was so swollen ( luckily was not as bad as will smith in Hitch ).

Can't wait to go there again.

Flo and Bri, sorry I won't put my swollen lips in this blog, afraid the reader confuses it with Angelina Jolie's :P

Study law in UK

Can't stop laughing after read this.

UK Immigration Officer: Purpose of visit?
Singaporean Visitor: I'm here to study law, sir.
Officer: You know, you must have a lot of lawyers in Singapore.
Visitor: Why do you say that?
Officer: Well, I've been here for a good twenty years, and I'd say 80% of Singaporeans I see here say they're here to read law.
Visitor: Oh, really? That's really something I never knew. Hard to believe in fact.
Officer: Just you watch, then. You just stand here until the next Singaporean comes along, and I'll bet he's here to study law

Visitor waits for 5 mins, Ah Chong from Singapore comes to immigration counter
Officer: Mr. Ah Chong, purpose of visit?
Ah Chong: Study lorr...

Powerful Digital Stereo Sound

Who has the most powerful voice in Singapore? The captain or leader of NDP? Yes - true, but in Singapore many more people can speak louder than him.

Don't believe me? Come to your nearest hawker center. After you order your food, wait nicely until one lady come to your table and ask "wat drink you want hah?". You tell her what you want. Mine was "2 green tea and 1 milo". Wait until she turn her chin, look straight at the drink stall and scream " 2 GREEN TEA !!! AND 1 MILO !!!!!!!" - right on top of your head.

Micros Fidelio system is definitely no need in this service area.

DON'T U EVER TRY TO TAKE MY SEAT

I must give a big applause for those who invented the way how to book the seat in Hawker center by putting their belonging.

Only in Singapore, no matter other people are long queuing and hard to find a seat after bringing a tray full of meal, the KIASU* person doesn't care and book the seat for putting everything, most are tissue paper.

I don't blame them, it's definitely fine to have a friend to look after your table or seat while other friends are ordering ( like I found in any other country )- but book the whole table by putting tissue paper and leave it unoccupied for more than 10 minutes; and by the same time, other fellow try to find a seat and go around for more than 10 minutes only for a seat ( the same time also he/she will spend for eating ).

It's a really hard "find-a-seat-competition" for a single lunch eater.

I am not angry, but as the matter of advise, next time put your hand phone, laptop, your fierce husband or tiger to look after your seat.

*kiasu : term in Singapore that means die die must win - doesn't want to be in 2nd place.

my simple name

Name: Obed
Gender: Boy
Meaning: Servant, worshipper
Origin: Hebrew Categories: Biblical, Jewish
Pronunciation: (O bed)
In the Old Testament, Obed is the name of the grandfather of King David. http://www.babynamesworld.com/meaning_of_Obed.html

I don't understand why my simple name is sometimes mistakenly pronounce. It's obviously easier than Dalziel, Qayshon or Balthazar. But,
For Thai : Khun lobet
For Australian : Obet ( e like in emotion ) sound like "Obit"
For Chinese singaporean : Obek or worse oben ( e in america )

I wanna called Wilson ( Ben's brother )
Lady picked up the phone "Wei"
I reply " Hallo, afternoon auntie"
"Who calling ha?"
"Auntie, can I speak to .." before I finished my sentence
"Who ar u?"
"Obed's here"
"Oh ben - ben out"
"No no, this is obed, I want to speak to Wilson please auntie"
"Ben? Told you already, ben is out"
"Obed obed auntie - not ben"
"O ben - aiya, how many time told you hah! ben out. Come back after 5. You call later lor"
Click - she hang up the phone.

Hmmm,.. calling mobile phone is more expensive but definitely easier
