Having a “new” community in Singapore, I felt and learned that most of them are split into two species, those who settled down domesticated couples and those who aren’t, read party, party, party.
I am talking about community for those who are success, well educated, good looking, over 30 and never consider legal marriage is a part of their life; or simply that marriage can’t be implied to their life.
What I see that the domesticated couple tends to be more serious, talk for future minded, to buy or share condo together, meanwhile other who aren’t simply act I-don’t-want-look-older-than-18years old but happily stress-free of unnecessary domestic problem.
What are they doing everyday?
Outside the working hours, means only a couple hours a day and day off. The domesticated coupled mostly be found in coffee shop, bookstore, most of them shop at deli/gourmet grocery places where to me most of their products are unpronounceable.
They are talking about nutrition fact and how to look after their body more than all aunties do. Debating calories intake and scare 1% additional body fat will make their partner run away. Ask them where the best facial and even a face lifting, they can direct you the best places instead aunties who just cares about slimming package discount.
The other package of their life is a dog. Sometimes I wonder why dog? May be coz’ a fish can not be shown on the street for those having attitude of look-at-me-darling-I-am-as-gorgeous-as-paris-hilton or may be within a year or two into living together once things have settled down and there’s nothing else to channel attention to. Some said that once dog comes in, then sex goes out. Whoa.
The single one, on the other hand, mostly doesn’t keep a dog; simply do groceries shopping at nearby cold storage, while looking for cute young expatriate angmoh more than their shopping list. Rest of lunch and dinner problem or cooking-ideas, leave it to chicken rice uncle and fish ball noodle counter. Do they look after their body? Oh ya definitely, 4 times a week a gym and 2 glasses of protein shake intake a day.
But one thing I learned, most of them scare to be old and lonely, which I do. Well may be it’s the time for me to learn how to pronounce the deli/gourmet product now and thinking for my future dog’s name.
Reading Florence blog has made me feel to write again.
